Coronavirus Diary Day 84: June 4, 2020

Restaurants Reopening, Haircuts are Happening, Kpop Hijacks Hashtags

In the words of Liz Lemon, “I lie awake at night wondering what fresh hell tomorrow will bring.” Well, guess what?

Tomorrow is Friday, June 5th. It’s the much anticipated day when Pennsylvania officially reopens. Among other things, this means restaurants can serve patrons via outdoor seating. The Hubs and I have dinner reservations. I’m absolutely stoked. Also, extremely nervous about my social skills.

My youngest son, Ryan graduated from high school yesterday. It was… noneventful. Well, ok. He and his friends piled into the back of a landscaping truck and smoked cigars while parading past their school amid the cheers and applause of their teachers, guidance counselors, custodians, cafeteria workers, coaches, administrators, and school volunteers. Most other students enjoyed these festivities from the passenger seats of their moms’ and dads’ luxury SUVs, but luckily for me, Ryan inherited my penchant for lawlessness.

One of my young English students (who lives in Paris) got his hair cut today. It’s been 3 months since his last haircut, during which time I’ve watched it grow into a giant, curly, adorable mess on the top of his head. I can’t wait to see him next week with a high-n-tight. It’s going to take a lot of restraint not to laugh, and then cry, and then laugh again, and then cry again.

The dog got his hair cut today, too.

You know I’ve really upped my cocktail game when I open my liquor cabinet and the dog immediately runs to the freezer because he knows that it’s only a matter of minutes before I toss him a cube.

At some point during this past week, Kpop stans (not a typo) highjacked the hashtag #whitelivesmatter and other hashtags just like it. When you click on those hashtags, you are now inundated with videos and images of Korean boy bands and Korean girl bands, and all their superior dance moves, as opposed to what you might have expected. By the way, I am so here for this. There is never a time when you’ve watched enough BTS or Red Velvet, ok?

Yet you continue to ask, what’s happening with Coronavirus? Oh, that. I mean, I think it’s still a thing, right?
